Student Leadership

Young boys and girls are outside, and one girl is pointing to a floating bubble.

Many ways to lead at KIS

KIS empowers students to collaborate, lead, and make positive change. We offer multiple ways for students to take the lead including through clubs, activities mentorship, student council, and Phoenix Ambassadors. Our student leaders focus on creating a positive KIS experience for all students.

Phoenix Ambassadors & Phoenix Town

Our Phoenix Ambassadors program is a schoolwide opportunity for students to welcome, serve, and connect people in our community. Phoenix Ambassadors are often the first peers a new student meets. Ambassadors lead school tours, volunteer at school events, and share their student perspective at open house Q&As. Fourth and fifth grade ambassadors also help plan elementary school assemblies centered on character development.

High school Phoenix Town retreats are an invitation to practice empathy, connect, and explore individual and collective potential and purpose to build character and community.

Student Council & House League

Student councils and the House League build community and increase school spirit. House League is designed to strengthen the secondary school community through multigrade, schoolday events and fun competition.

Student councils work within their division to plan and promote events, work that requires project management skills and develops confidence. Responsibilities are scaffolded from middle to high school and student councils often collaborate with other school groups. Middle and high school student councils also represent student voice to school administration, helping to shape relevant decisions and policies.

Club Leadership & Activities Mentorship

Most high school clubs are student-led and many have a service component. Mentorship is essential to the sustainability of student-led clubs. Teachers and school leadership work with student leaders to develop transferable  skills that will also serve their future education and careers.

We pair high school volunteers with adult leaders to support elementary and middle school co-curriculars as assistant coaches or activity mentors. Many of our high school coaches and mentors choose the role as a way to give back to an activity or sport that matters to them.
