Experiential Education

Young boys and girls are outside, and one girl is pointing to a floating bubble.

Experiential education matters!

Experiential education (EE) is essential learning at KIS. New experiences are transformative! On campus experiences, local day trips, and overnight adventures are all part of our EE program. We value opportunities that extend learning, build connections, and challenge growth.

We like learning on our campus. We are on a hill with a forest area for outdoor classes and play. We encourage multigrade collaboration – like students working across divisions to build a theater set or manage the greenhouse. Our teachers invite guest speakers to deepen subject area and industry knowledge. Project based learning, performances, and showcases create meaningful ways to share learning with others.

KIS is so close to so much! Local day trips enrich learning. Our students have picked pumpkins and strawberries, studied the history of kimchi, visited memorials and palaces, walked through history and art museums, the aquarium and zoo. Day trips include conversations with industry leaders and short internships that introduce students to potential careers.

Student safety first

Our EE team works with administrators, trip leads, and location partners to conduct a thorough risk assessment as part of any off campus trip planning.

Overnight Adventures

Partnering with APA

Beginning in upper elementary, all students join overnight EE trips that empower individual growth and build community through teamwork and challenge. Through these experiences, our students develop confidence, resilience, and adaptability.

We are proud to partner with Asia Pacific Adventure (APA), an outdoor adventure industry leader working with over 40 international schools in the region. APA leads fall and spring EE trips for our secondary students to locations around Korea and international destinations like Mongolia and Hong Kong. Activities include rafting, teambuilding, climbing, hiking, gorge trekking, traversing, and surfing – unique opportunities that challenge and surprise students as they take healthy risks, grow, and reflect.
