December 2, 2024
Jared Wood is a middle school English language arts teacher at KIS. A few of his students had the opportunity to learn more about journalism from writers and editors at Korea JoongAng Daily. He shares more here.
Ambitious eighth and ninth grade students stepped into the dynamic world of journalism through Korea JoongAng Daily's intensive three-day internship program this fall. Under the guidance of experienced reporters and editors, these young aspiring journalists immersed themselves in the complete news production cycle.
Students learned essential skills including story development, interview techniques, and journalistic writing, all while receiving personalized mentoring from seasoned professionals. The program culminated in each student crafting their own news article, which underwent professional editing and earned the distinction of being published both in print and on Korea JoongAng Daily's digital platforms.

- Prices skyrocket as climate change threatens Korea’s food security
- One photo, everlasting trauma: Deepfake exploitation prompts legal changes
- Reliant on exports, Korea braces for ‘Trumponomics’
- Han Kang's Nobel win sheds light on Korea's darker realities
Through hands-on newsroom experience, behind-the-scenes tours, and one-on-one coaching sessions, participants gained valuable insights into professional journalism while developing their writing and reporting abilities. More than just an internship, this program offered students a unique opportunity to see their work reach a real audience and take their first steps toward a potential career in journalism.
