We Belong!

We Belong!

February 13, 2025

Jiwon is a KIS communications intern. She also is part of the We Belong club for middle and high school students. Here she tells about the purpose of the group and an activity they shared with Seoul campus elementary.

We Belong is a club aiming to promote inclusivity and advocate for equity within and outside of the school. We Belong brings together middle school students and high school students and allows them to collaborate and celebrate their differences.

Middle school student Atticus says she enjoys the collaboration between middle and high school students because “although there are only two people from middle school and an abundant amount of high schoolers, it's nice to see our insight included” and to see “everyone working toward the same goal.”

On November 13, the We Belong club traveled to KIS Seoul campus to celebrate Inclusive Day with the elementary students. Inclusive Day is a day dedicated to ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background, age, or gender, is welcomed and treated fairly. Club members led lessons for different classes and talked about the importance of inclusivity and diversity. Atticus enjoyed the trip – one moment in particular stood out as special. “There was a first grader who said ‘I'm not yellow, I'm peach,’” Atticus says. Students can see beyond skin color when making friends.

Groups of two or three club members each had the opportunity to teach elementary classes, ranging from kindergarten to fourth grade. The KIS Pangyo students guided the elementary students through reading activities, the game would you rather, discussions, and more.

We Belong members were able to form meaningful connections with Seoul campus students and help them build friendships.
