We Are All Icebergs

We Are All Icebergs

This story is part of a series exploring how KIS practices global citizenship.

Teachers Will Arnold, Brady Baildon, and Elizabeth Kajer appreciate the curiosity students develop for their own sense of self. Your identity comes from many different experiences, beliefs, and practices influenced by family, culture, and place.

You are an iceberg! Parts of your identity are visible like a towering chunk of ice in the ocean. For seventh graders, the iceberg image opened a conversation about what they have in common with one another – including all the less visible characteristics they share.

In the video story below, you’ll hear from seventh grade students and teachers about what they learned about themselves and from each other.

Exploring identity creates awareness and appreciation for similarities and differences. We are a school community of over 30 nationalities and thousands of individual stories that tell who we are. Our inherent worth is equal.

So how do we create a community that values belonging?
