Korea International School takes pride in being a leader in the field of educational innovations. Beginning in the fall of 2007, the students in grades 9-11, began participating in a new 1:1 Laptop Program, supported by Apple Computers. Teachers and students began to receive training in the use of instructional technology in the classroom to enhance learning. Students developed entirely new skill sets related to the use of technology as a resource and a tool for furthering knowledge of a subject area. As students and staff progressed, training intensified and more grade levels were added to the program, including grades 9-12 in the high school and grades 7 and 8 in the middle school.

At present, each teacher and each student in grades 6-12, uses the laptop computer on a daily basis to conduct research, to produce projects and curriculum products, to illustrate and/or enhance classroom presentations, and to explore information that may only be accessible through the World Wide Web. Our entire campus operates through wireless routers that make the internet accessible in each classroom and in all commons areas. Each classroom is also outfitted with digital projectors that can be used to display information for whole class activities.

Instructional Technology has been seamlessly incorporated into many aspects of the curriculum at KIS. Through our ¡°Digital Journalism¡± courses, we produce a digital newspaper, and we have developed the ability to create, record, and broadcast news events and announcements to the entire school with our Phoenix TV productions. Live ¡°streaming¡± is often used to televise events that everyone cannot personally attend. In conjunction with our Model United Nations Club, KIS students have taken the lead in covering MUN conventions in Singapore, Beijing, and Seoul by producing high quality broadcasts of the events surrounding these major international meetings.

KIS has had several staff members recognized as ¡°Apple Distinguished Educators¡± for their excellent use of instructional technology. These ¡°experts¡± provide a valuable resource for students and staff as we continue to explore and develop new ways to challenge our students. We are extremely proud of our progress and we are dedicated to continuous improvement of this program.
