Welcome to the Fall Semester for the Korea International Middle School Program. The Middle School Program is a rigorous three-year transitional program supporting students as they move from the elementary level and then three-years later into the exceptional Korea International High School. Our middle-level program is based on developing strong foundational skills for each student. We understand the early teenage years and work to develop the skills needed for both academic and social success. We strive to build long-lasting relationships with all students while staying focused on the following five Core Values of the KIS. During the middle-level years, these five foundational areas guide both the work undertaken in our classrooms and the overall KIS system.
The Five Core Values of KIS
- Global Citizenship – By developing an appreciation and understanding of world cultures, communities and perspectives.
- Integrity – By educating our school community to become ethical, fair, honest and responsible citizens.
- Adaptability – By providing a variety of challenging experiences that promote success and the ability to see change in a positive light.
- Balance in Life – By nurturing physical, social-emotional, creative and intellectual wellness, leading to healthy self-actualization.
- Empowerment – By providing opportunities to apply knowledge and skills to real-world situations, fostering confidence, leadership and responsible risk-taking.
Through the five Core Values of Global Citizenship, Integrity, Adaptability, Balance in Life and Empowerment, we strive to build the skills necessary for the success of each student. We develop these skills through a comprehensive educational approach making use of conventional and unconventional classroom instruction methods. We believe our students need to learn in a variety of different environments while maintaining the appropriate academic rigor. The teaching staff at the Korea International School is dedicated to this philosophy and they use differentiated lessons to support the development of well-rounded learners. Along with this, as parents, guardians and teachers, we must promote positive communication in order to best support these educational philosophies. As such, I urge you to contact the school if you have specific questions, comments or concerns.
Further, please take a moment to familiarize yourself with our website http://www.kis.or.kr/index.php (click on the Middle School tab) by reading the information posted on this link. The website is a great resource that will answer many of your questions about our academic programming. Lastly, we take pride in being part of the KIS family and as a Phoenix we strive to build the emotional, academic, and social skills needed to be successes in a global society. Throughout the year, your student will have multiple opportunities to develop different aspects of these skills, ultimately laying the critical foundation for well-rounded success. The new school year brings opportunities for growth and understanding, a platform that allows all members of the KIS to excel. Again, we would like to welcome all students, parents, and guardians to the exciting school year and thank you for your support and dedication to our school.
Yours in Education,
David Lovelin, Ed.D
