Children in the early years are inherently curious about the world around them.
Our Early Years Program supports this natural development by offering young children a safe and nurturing setting that enables students to explore, experiment, and discover through the use of hands-on materials.

Early Years Classes |
|
We offer an all day program for Pre-Kindergarten (PK), Junior-Kindergarten (JK), and Kindergarten (K).
School hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
We offer a structured curriculum where play is an essential part of children¡¯s learning and general devel-
opment. Our program starts from Preschool, progressing through to Pre-Kindergarten and finally,
Kindergarten.
After the completion of our Kindergarten program, students then move to the main campus, KIS Pangyo,
where they can attend classes in the Elementary School.

Our enriched curriculum contributes to the physical, emotional and aesthetic development of each child as
we offer physical education, computer technology, art, music, and Korean classes that enhance and
support classroom learning and further the development of the knowledge and skills that are the
focus in every unit.

Early Years Curriculum |
|
Our American standards-based curriculum is modified to provide an international dimension as we are
guided by the International Primary Curriculum (IPC).
Skills are sequentially built from Preschool through Kindergarten. Each year the curriculum builds upon
what the children have learned the year before.
What follows are the four learning strands that define the focus of the IPC. Through this learning, they will
develop the skills and attitudes they need in order to succeed in their future schooling.

Independence and
interdependence :

This strand focuses on the children¡¯s personal goals and their relationships with
other children

Communicating :
|
This strand is primarily about developing skills in communication including
speaking and listening, reading and writing, early numeracy work and the
expressive arts.

Exploring :
|
Through this strand the children¡¯s inquiry skills are developed.

|
Healthy living :
|
Using the statements within this strand children are encouraged to understand
how to look after themselves and each other.

Parental Involvement |
|
One of the characteristics of a ¡°great¡± school is the high level of parental involvement. We are committed
to building a strong partnership with parents since we believe that active parental involvement at school
positively affects the educational progress of children.
Parents may become involved in many ways in our Early Years Program as we offer many opportunities
for parents to be part of their children¡¯s growth as well as education such as in our Parent Volunteer Program,
Parent Education Program, Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), and our Early Years Program Parent Survey.

We encourage parents to communicate with their child¡¯s teacher on a regular basis. Teachers have email
addresses that parents can use to express concerns or ask questions about their child.
Twice a year, at the end of the first and third quarters, there is a Parent Conference Day. On this day
parents are invited to come to school to sit with the teacher, go over the quarterly checklist of skills
(report card), the narrative that discusses how the child functions in the classroom, and the child¡¯s portfolio.
Teachers are available for parent conferences when needed.
