Dear Parents and Students:
To maintain our reputation for excellence, we have created admissions criteria that ensure our incoming students are of the highest quality. Our final decision is therefore based on a holistic evaluation of each applicant’s academic record, their extracurricular interests and their character. Since all instruction is conducted in English, it is assumed that all applicants are able to communicate fluently in English. We evaluate students based on their performance in the following categories:
Transcripts/Report Cards: Each student must submit their current report cards in addition to their report cards from the previous two years. High School applicants must submit official copies of all High School transcripts. Those documents are evaluated as a whole; we note any teacher comments as well as the grades that were earned. Most of our newly admitted students have a cumulative G.P.A. of at least 3.5 with positive teacher comments.
Standardized Test Scores: Where it is applicable, students must provide us with the results of standardized tests they have taken. The Iowa Test, Stanford, PSAT, SSAT, ACT and SAT are the most common standardized tests we receive. We use these tests to place a student in relation to their national percentile ranking, to understand their performance on individual section tests, and to understand the overall academic ability of the student. Our incoming students generally score at or above the 75th percentile.
Letters of Recommendation: Letters of recommendation provide insight into the total development of the student; they provide a picture of the applicant as a student and person. To be a strong candidate, an applicant’s recommendation letters should indicate that the student is an excellent student and a well-rounded individual.
KIS Interview and Testing: The on-site interview and testing are essential parts of the evaluation process. Since our applicants generally have excellent academic records and letters of recommendation, the interview and test allow us to gain a more complete understanding of the student. These aspects of the evaluation act as a direct opportunity to learn about the personality, character and interests of each individual applicant. We therefore use this time to make a more informed admission decision.
The final decision is the result of a careful consideration of the entirety of the application. Applicants will neither be accepted nor rejected based on their performance in one of the aforementioned categories.
